Rubbermaid Wire Shelf Instructions

Rubbermaid wire shelving units come in sets of three. They are typically designed for use in a laundry room, store room or closet. Attaching the brackets, shelf holders and shelves correctly is essential. Follow safety recommendations and correct assembly procedures so that your shelves will be strong, useful and safe.

Attach Brackets

Attach the brackets for the wire shelf to the wall first. There are three long brackets that come with the shelving unit. These should be attached to your wall using drywall screws or brackets. When possible, use the specific screws and brackets that came with the shelf. The three brackets should be spaced at 16 inches apart and should be evenly measured and spaced at the top, bottom and middle. The brackets should be flush with one another, meaning they are exactly even on the wall at both the top and the bottom.

Attaching Shelf Holders

Decide how far part you would like your shelves. The shelf assembly is designed so that you might have any distance between shelving units you would like. Take the triangle-shaped shelf holders and snap them into position. The flat end should have a small hook on it. Set this hook into one of the holes on the brackets already attached to your wall. Tilt up when you set the hook into the bracket, and then push gently downward until the hook snaps into position.

Set three triangle shaped shelf holders into the brackets in a line. Count the number of possible bracket holes on each bracket to make sure you have set the three at the same height for each bracket. Install two more rows of three shelf holders each, again making sure that the shelf holders in each row are completely even.

Mounting Shelves

Mount the three shelves onto the triangle shelf holders using the brackets that came with the unit. If you have no brackets, buy small U-shaped brackets at a hardware store, but be advised that this might not be as sturdy and safe as using the brackets that came with the shelves.

Attach the shelves with brackets at the back, front and in the middle of the triangle-shaped shelf holders.
