Outdoor Grill Design Ideas

There are many options when designing an outdoor grill.

Many options exist when deciding design an outdoor grill. When designing your outdoor grill, keep in mind the space available, the climate where you live, what materials you prefer, and how you intend to use the grill.

Barbecue Grill Island

The barbecue grill island is a design option that works well if you do not have much space to work with. There are variations of this grill that can accommodate your space, but also your needs. At its basic level, there is a grill and a food preparation area. A wet bar and other areas can be added on if you have a little bit more room to work with.

Outdoor Kitchen

For people with more room to work with, the outdoor kitchen is a good choice. This is basically an extension of the kitchen in the house. Grills can be charcoal or gas and can be as big as a person wants. This option typically provides a larger preparation area. Grills are built into the rest of the station. These setups also often feature ovens and refrigerators. Building an outdoor kitchen close to the house may also allow for a sink to be put in.

Bar

A bar area can typically be added to any type of grilling station, unless it is very small. This is done by raising one of the countertops. People can then sit on the other side of the counter and talk with the griller while food is being prepared. In outdoor kitchens with refrigerators, this is especially convenient because guests do not have to go inside to get drinks.

Materials

When designing your grill, certain considerations should be taken with regard to the materials. The first is to consider the climate where you live. The grill should be able to withstand the elements. Also, keep in mind that the area will be hot because of the grill so be aware of grill placement and what would be around it. Some good choices are granite, stucco, stainless steel and stone. These are durable materials that will be fine in most places. If you want wood to be a part of your grill design, remember that different types of wood fare differently in wet and dry climates.
