Installing A Bruno Scooter Lift

Bruno Scooter Lift Installation

There are three characteristics required of anyone installing a Bruno Scooter Lift --- the ability to crawl around, under and inside a vehicle, a strong comfort level with electricity and a certain level of forethought and logic. If you are not comfortable working with a car battery or running wires through the passenger compartment, hire someone to assist in the installation.

Placing the Lift Base

Making sure the installation vehicle is right for the lift and Bruno Scooter is important for the successful use of the lift. Clearance for height, angle and length of the lift arm are adjustable measurements, allowing the Bruno Scooter lift to be installed in all types of vehicles. Placement in the trunk and closest point to the rear of the vehicle will result in a well-positioned lift base and typically allow plenty of room for the lift to accomplish its job. Begin with finding the right location for the base post. The post position should allow for the lift arm to move out of the trunk and form a 90-degree angle to the cars bumper. This requires a lift arm rotation of 90 degrees. If this requirement is not met, the Bruno scooter could hit the back of the vehicle when being transported into the trunk.

Clearances

Continual checking for equipment clearances will ensure long-term use of the lift. When placing the lift and then again after the actual installation, check for obstructions from door, tailgates and trunk lid in open and closed positions. Not only is lift and scooter movement a necessity but identifying where gas tanks and fuel lines are located is important, too. When stabilizing the installation of the base and lift, the use of mounting screws and other attachment devices can pierce or damage tanks and wiring. Do not drill and attach through important or flammable parts of the vehicle. This may require crawling underneath the car to verify drilling locations.

Electrical Needs

The Bruno Scooter operates through electrical power. Connecting power to the lift includes grounding the lift motor to the metal body of the car and routing power from the car battery to the lift motor. An inline fuse inserted at the battery is needed before the electrical connections can be completed. The process requires disconnecting the ground cable at the battery and making the long journey from the front of the vehicle to the rear or trunk. This involves keeping the wiring away from areas of the automobile that become hot and areas where feet might become entangled. Follow all instructions in the manufacturers installation manual to obtain a fully charged scooter lift.
