Identify A Real Movado Watch

A real Movado watch also has a logo printed on the inside.

Movado makes luxury timepieces that are coveted for their beauty and precision craftsmanship. Though they're not in the same class as Rolexes, Movados are still considered to be in the top tier of watches. Because of their popularity, fake versions are made and sold every year.

Instructions

1. Examine the printing on the watch face carefully. A real Movado will be printed with the words Swiss Movado Made or Swiss Made. If it says Swiss Movado Quartz, it is not real. The word MOVADO must be printed in all caps.

2. Look for the Movado logo on the inside of the watch. Remove the back cover and inspect the inner workings of the watch. A real Movado watch will always have a logo imprinted on the inside. It should be written in all caps: MOVADO.

3. Check to make sure that the serial number of the watch is correct. Call the customer service number located on the Movado website and cross-check the serial number with a company representative. The company meticulously catalogs all watches made and shipped out, and its representatives will be able to tell you whether you have a real Movado watch. Also, check for any errors in grammar and spelling on the inside of the watch and on the watch face. Most replicas are made in foreign countries so spelling and grammatical errors are likely.

4. Check to make sure that the second hand on the Movado watch moves smoothly without stopping. The hand should sort of glide across the watch face instead of subtly catching as it counts the seconds. Also, check for dust or other small contaminants inside the watch face; an authentic Movado watch will not contain any such imperfections.

5. Pay close attention to the price points of real Movado watches. No authentic Movado watch ever costs less than $250. Retailers that offer large discounts on these watches may not be selling you the real thing.

Tips Warnings

If you're still unsure about the authenticity of a Movado watch, take it to an official Movado boutique and have an expert look at it.
