Many variations of the recipe are available and with the basic ingredients, you can add your personal touch to the recipe based on your own personal taste. Chex trash mix is a great snack to have on hand when the kids come home after school or to set out at a party. By following a few easy steps, you can get your hands on this sweet treat.

Instructions

1. Measure the Chex cereal into a large bowl. Set aside. This will be used in a later step.

2. Heat the chocolate chips, butter and peanut butter on the stove top on low to medium heat until all ingredients are completely blended. This will take about five minutes. Be sure not to burn the chocolate during this step. Stir in vanilla and remove from heat.

3. Pour the chocolate, peanut butter and butter mixture over the cereal in the bowl. Mix until the mixture is evenly coating the cereal. The mixture will begin to turn solid. This is normal.

4. Transfer the cereal to a two-gallon re-sealable zipper bag. Add powdered sugar and shake. Place the cereal on wax paper and allow it to cool. Store the treat in the refrigerator in an airtight container.
