Moen Tub Faucet Repair

Moen Tub Faucet Repair

Moen tub faucet repair requires little expertise. The average homeowner will accomplish this task in under an hour. The most common repair is the replacement of the cartridge inside the faucet. This fixes leaks and water temperature control problems. If your faucet is experiencing either of these, it is probably due to worn out parts inside the cartridge. Find a replacement cartridge at your hardware or home improvement store.

Instructions

1. Shut off the water valves behind the shower faucet. Access them by opening the panel in the wall directly behind the shower. If there is no panel, turn off the home's main water valves near the water heater.

2. Take the cap off the top of the Moen faucet handle with a flat-head screwdriver or another slotted instrument. Then loosen the small screw under the cap with an Allen wrench. The handle will slide right off the fixture, just pull it backward with your hands.

3. Pull out the cartridge inside the head of the faucet. Grasp the stem with your fingers and pull backward. If necessary, use a pair of needle-nose pliers to pull this out. If the cartridge will not slide out, there may be a retainer clip holding it in place. Pry this off with the pliers and then remove the cartridge.

4. Insert a new, matching Moen faucet cartridge into the head of the faucet and push it back until it stops. Replace the retainer clip (if there is one) by sliding it over the faucet head.

5. Attach the new handle by sliding it over the stem of the cartridge. Thread the set screw into the mount hole in the handle and tighten it with your Allen wrench. Then replace the cap by pressing it into the handle.
