Vizio is a California-based manufacturer.
Vizio flat panel HDTVs have become popular for their combination of high-quality HD video and competitive pricing, with features including (in many models) 1080p resolution, dynamic contrast ratio, brightness sensors, TruSurround HD sound and Energy Star-compliant efficiency. These sets are designed to be a solid addition to any viewing room, though as with any TV, different factors may cause the picture to not display as it should. When this happens, there are certain things to try before calling the professionals.
Instructions
1. Check the cable connections to the viewing source components (cable set-top receiver/DVR or DVD player, for example) if the TV is powered on (the Vizio logo on the front of the unit lighting up in white) but there is no picture or you see the words No Signal. Ensure that the cables are connected securely at both ends and connected to the specific input port you have the TV set to and that the component is also powered on; press the button for that input (i.e. HDMI or COMP) on the remote control, or press Input with other models to double-check, pressing it repeatedly if there are more than one of that type of input.
2. Press Menu and select the Picture menu to check the settings for the various aspects of the picture display if it appears dim, discolored or is off in some way. Use the arrow keys on the remote control to highlight and adjust the brightness, color, contrast, backlight and other options, as well as turn on or off features including the ambient light sensor, color temperature, color enhancement (enhances white levels) and Smooth Motion (suppresses judder (stuttering) in fast-moving images). Or, choose Reset Picture Mode to restore the picture to factory settings.
3. Press Menu and select Wide to change the aspect ratio of the picture if the images appear distorted or oddly-shaped, or to remove or decrease the black bars at the top and bottom or the sides of the screen (letterboxing). Standard and high-definition programming will appear differently and will have a different optimal picture setting; options may vary depending on the particular Vizio model.
4. Check to see if any nearby devices are causing interference if the picture is snowy or there is a humming sound. Certain electrical appliances and even fluorescent lights can cause this effect; move or unplug any such devices to see if the picture improves.
5. Try another device at the same input to see if the picture improves; if it does, the problem may be with the first source component. If using an antenna to receive TV programming, move or adjust the antenna to improve reception if the picture freezes up or the signal is lost.
