Make Asparagus Cheese Strata

Strata is similar to both quiche and French toast in that it contains eggs and bread. The difference is that you combine the eggs and bread with meat, cheese and vegetables, and then cook the strata in a casserole or baking dish. Asparagus cheese strata is a simple-to-make, delicious meal that's great for breakfast, lunch or dinner.

Instructions

1. Brush butter on one side of the whole wheat or white bread slices.

2. Put half of the bread in a greased 13-by-9-by-2 inch baking pan or dish with the buttered sides facing up.

3. Sprinkle ? cup of the cheese over the buttered bread.

4. Place the asparagus and ham or sausage on top of the cheese and bread.

5. Take the rest of the buttered bread and cover the asparagus and meat, buttered side up.

6. Gently beat the eggs in a large bowl. Mix in the mustard, salt, onion and milk. Pour the mixture over the bread.

7. Tightly cover the strata and refrigerate overnight.

8. Preheat the oven to 325 degrees. Uncover the strata and bake for 50 minutes (or until golden brown).

9. Take the rest of the cheese and sprinkle it on top of the strata. Bake for 10 more minutes, or until the cheese has melted. You know it's ready when a knife inserted in the center of the strata comes out clean. Serve warm.
