Make Your Own Cinderella Gown

Add your own style to your Cinderella-inspired costume.

Cinderella's story is a classic rags-to-riches tale, and girls of every age find it touching and enchanting. Therefore, it's no wonder that so many children want to dress up as her for Halloween or that so many brides want to infuse their dresses with Cinderella-inspired elements. Whether you are planning to create your gown for your wedding or as an evening dress, the magic of the classic story is sure to make your attire spectacular.

Instructions

1. Measure yourself at the bust, waist and hips. Select your dress-pattern size based on these measurements to ensure the best fit.

2. Cut out the pattern pieces in the corresponding size and pin them to the fabric. The pieces that are used to create the main body of the dress should be placed on the duchess satin, while the pieces for the panniers and sleeves should be placed on the organza. Cut out the fabric accordingly.

3. Pin the gown's bodice pieces together with right (facing) sides together. This will keep the rough edges on the inside of the gown. Sew the bodice pieces together according to the pattern's instructions, and repeat the same process with the bodice lining. Sew the sleeves to the outer bodice portion. Pin the lining and bodice together at the neckline and sew the two in place. Flip the lining to the inside to create a smooth finish.

4. Sew the skirt together, pleating the waistband's fabric as specified by the pattern. Sew the pleats in place before continuing. Gather the panniers' organza fabric across the upper edges and match them to the skirt's sides. The panniers are the two sheer festoons on either side of Cinderella's gown. These markings will be pointed out on your pattern pieces. Sew the two panniers in place.

5. Pin the skirt and bodice together, keeping right sides together. Sew the two portions in place.

6. Install a zipper in the back of the gown. Adjust the seams as needed.

7. Finish the gown off with a black ribbon tied around your neck to complete the Cinderella-inspired frock.
