Building a wooden range hood
We want to customize our kitchen by building a wooden range hood. I have searched the net inquiring of several DIY helpers online for plans to no avail. This is rather surprising to me since wooden range hoods are very popular with new custom look kitchen cabinetry. We looked at several on display and they do not appear to be too difficult. I even contacted our cabinet company but the cost (over $2500) too excess in my opinion. However, I would prefer to find a basic set of plans to build a 30 wooden range hood and customize the look myself. Can you help me find such plans? Any information would be greatly appreciated. What would be a good choice of wood to handle the heat best? Most of the things that I read about the wooden hoods mentioned a liner. I imagine that the liner facilitates cleaning the grease that will inevitably accumulate on the hood liner. The liner should also protect the wood from the transient heat. Recall that the hood is a couple of feet above the cooking surface and the air is being pulled through it all the time. It seems that wood contemporaneous to the design and construction of the kitchen's cabinets would be appropriate. Other than that, I don't think that it would matter. It's a 9 year old thread. The OP has probably solved his problem by now.
