Manage A Wine Cellar

Having a wine cellar is a great way to add sophistication to your home. It increases your home's value while allowing you to collect and store valuable wines. Even if you have a modest wine cellar, you're going to want to manage and keep track of the bottles. There are a few things you can do to make managing a wine cellar easier.

Instructions

1. Create a cataloging system not unlike what you might find at the library. In your database, create a numerical system for placing wines on your shelves, then mark the cubbies with the corresponding numbers. This way, when you look for a wine in your database, you'll be able to find it on the shelves easily, even when the face of the wine is not facing out.

2. Find a dedicated wine cellar software suite like Cellar! (see Resources below). These software suites are designed specifically to help you manage a wine cellar, large or small.

3. Input all of the vital statistics about the wines you own into your database. This will include the vineyard and winery, the varietal, the year of the bottling and any other pertinent or important information.

4. Keep notes about the wines you have tasted in your database, so you can remember to either buy or skip a wine for your collection. Go to wine tastings, take notes and input them into your database when you get home.

5. Take pictures of labels and include them in your database. This will help you easily identify bottles on the shelves so you can grab the ones you want in a hurry.
