Where Are Blue Diamond Almonds Grown

Blue Diamond Almonds is the largest nut harvesting company in the world. All the almonds for their many products, which range from traditional packet almonds to almond milk and butter, are grown in the state of California.

The Cooperative

Blue Diamond Almonds is a cooperative of almond growers that originally joined forces in 1910 in Sacramento, California. The cooperative turned California's almond industry into the leading almond producer in the world. Today, the headquarters of Blue Diamond Almonds is still based in Sacramento and about 3000 California almond growers contribute almond crops to their cooperative.

History of California Almond Growing

The almond plant was first brought to California by the Franciscan Padres from Spain in the mid-1700s. They were initially planted in coastal areas, and as a result of the moist sea air and winds, failed to grow successfully. Almost a century later they were planted inland in California's Central Valley region, primarily in the Sacramento and San Joaquin areas, where suitable growing conditions meant the plants flourished.

Growers

The 3000 growers that supply Blue Diamond Almonds have orchards all over central California, some orchards are located as far north as Red Bluff and others stretch to the Tehachapi Mountains. The almond farms range from small orchards of less than ten acres to vast orchards spreading over thousands of acres.
