Make A Green Popcorn Ball

Turn a plain popcorn ball into a green holiday treat.

Christmas, St. Patrick's Day, Easter and Kwanzaa are all holidays that have green as one of their signature colors. Many people like to color-coordinate their snacks and treats for holiday gatherings and green is one of the easiest colors to create. Color coordinated popcorn balls can be made for your next holiday gathering by dyeing them an appropriate shade of green. Whether you make a light spring green for Easter or a deep shade of emerald for an Irish celebration, green popcorn balls will be a welcome surprise.

Instructions

1. Place a heavy saucepan on the stove over low heat. Put 1 stick of butter in the pan and allow it to melt slowly.

2. Mix the brown sugar into the melted butter. Stir it constantly until the sugar is completely dissolved. This should take about 2 minutes.

3. Drop the marshmallows into the pot and stir. Keep stirring without stopping until all the marshmallows have melted.

4. Remove the pan from the heat and immediately stir in drops of green food coloring. Begin with three drops and stir it in completely. Check the color and decide whether you want a darker shade or not. Add more color 1 drop at a time until you get the desired hue.

5. Pour the liquid over the popcorn in a large mixing bowl. Mix the popcorn and sweet liquid together, with a wooden spoon until the popcorn is completely coated.

6. Rub softened butter on your hands to keep the popcorn mixture from sticking to them. Pick up a handful of the popcorn mixture as soon as it is cool enough to handle. Form the mixture into a ball and set it on a waxed-paper lined cookie sheet. Form the rest of the mixture into balls, and set them on the pans. Add more butter to your hands as needed. Allow the balls to cool before serving.
