Store Macaroon Cookies

Macaroon cookies are sweet treats that can be stored.

Macaroon cookies are delicate French desserts and a sweet addition to any meal. Made with egg whites and similar to a meringue, macaroons are often light and soft in the center with a crisp and flavorful exterior. Because they are so light, they should be handled and stored carefully. Whether you bake them yourself or bought them from a bakery, you will want to store them properly to preserve their freshness for up to several months.

Instructions

1. Allow the cookies to cool completely, whether you bake them yourself or buy them freshly baked from a bakery. Macaroon cookies should be light and airy. If you store them while still warm, they can hold excess moisture and become soggy and heavy. If you bake them at home, let them cool on a cooling rack until no longer warm to the touch or overnight when possible.

2. Cover the bottom of an airtight container with a piece of parchment paper. Place cooled cookies in an even layer over the paper. Macaroon cookies, especially homemade ones, are often very delicate so place them inside the container as carefully as possible.

3. Cover the cookies with a second layer of parchment paper, followed by another layer of cookies. Continue alternating layers of parchment paper and cookies until all your macaroons are stored. Disperse the weight of the cookies evenly to prevent crushing or otherwise damaging the cookies.

4. Top the cookies with a layer of parchment paper that is slightly larger than the container. This way, the container can still be sealed, but it will be easy to open and remove the cookies as needed.

5. Seal the lid of the airtight container in place. Store in a cabinet away from direct sunlight for up to several months.
