Make Beef & Dumpling Stew

Easily create this flavorful beef and dumpling stew

Stews always bring up wonderful memories of comforting, home-cooked meals during the winter. This easy-to-make beef and dumpling stew is rich with the flavors of slow-cooked vegetables, and it produces a moist and tender beef combined with delicious dumplings. Like most stews, the main effort is in preparing the ingredients, which takes about fifteen minutes. Simply combine all of the ingredients and let it simmer to create a savory and comforting stew that everyone can enjoy.

Instructions

1. In a large bowl, toss the stew meat with the flour until the beef is well coated.

2. In a large skillet, heat 4 tablespoons of butter over medium-high heat. Add the coated beef meat and cook until all sides are evenly browned. Remove the meat from the skillet and set aside.

3. Add the onion and garlic to the same skillet and cook until they soften. Add the meat back to the pan, along with the water, salt, pepper and parsley. Cover and then reduce the heat to low. Let it simmer for an hour, stirring occasionally and adding more water if it is needed.

4. Stir in potatoes, celery, carrots and green pepper. Cover and continue cooking for another 15 minutes. Then add the chopped mushrooms.

5. Mix together the biscuit mix, milk and melted butter in a bowl, just until they all blend and combine together. Drop the dough a tablespoon at a time into the stew. Simmer uncovered for 10 minutes. Then cover the skillet and cook for an additional 10 minutes until the dumplings are cooked all the way through.
