Holiday Menu Ideas For A Large Party

Gathering together with family and friends is a holiday tradition, but when you are in charge of feeding everyone, it may feel less festive and more overwhelming. However, with some preparation ahead of time, the holiday menu can be delicious, filling and satisfying to every guest.

Buffet Bar

One of the simplest things you can do for a large party is a buffet-style bar. Try a salad bar with everything from crisp fruits and veggies to taco meat and corn chips--all topping a shredded lettuce base. Or go with a potato bar, where each guest gets a couple of jacketed baked potatoes and a choice of toppings, from cheese sauce and chili to shredded cheese and bacon bits. A nacho bar brings a south-of-the-border taste to any holiday gathering.

Barbecue Sandwiches

Feed a lot of folks with barbecue sandwiches. Using two or three slow cookers, cook a few pork loin roasts overnight until the meat shreds easily. After shredding, return to the slow cookers and add bottles of barbecue sauce. With slices of cheese and hearty wheat buns, the pulled pork sandwiches will be the star of a holiday feast. Serve fresh fruit, pasta salad and assorted veggies and dip for a complete meal. As an alternative to pulled pork, try chicken or ground beef.

Super Soups

Few meals stretch as far to feed a crowd as soups. Whether you choose a hearty beef stew brimming with vegetables or a creamy potato and bacon soup, this menu choice will be welcomed, especially on a chilly day. Serve in hollowed-out bread bowls for an extra festive touch or provide soft rolls or bread sticks for dipping. Other options for soups and stews include corn chowder, clam chowder, chicken and rice and ham and bean.
