Brita Filter Instructions

Our brains need water to think properly.

Brita purports to be the world's leading maker of point-to-use tap water filtration products. In 1966, the founder Heinz Hankammer, noticed that our water contained impurities, which, if removed, would lead to healthier and better tasting water. The first filter he produced was the AquaDeMat, a filter used throughout Europe to produce de-mineralized water for car batteries. Heinz named his growing company after his daughter, Brita, and, in 1999, handed over responsibility as managing director to his son, Markus. In 2010, Brita sells pitchers, dispensers, faucet filtration, refrigerator filters and replacement filters.

Instructions

Changing The Filter

1. Wash your hands with soap and water.

2. Remove the filter from the filter bag.

3. Place the filter upright in water to soak for 15 minutes.

4. Wash your dispenser, lid and reservoir with detergent. Rinse thoroughly.

5. Rinse the filter under cold running water for a few seconds.

6. Line the groove on the filter up with the notch on your reservoir.

7. Press down firmly to ensure the filter fits in tightly.

8. Throw out the first two jugs of water.

Filter and Pitcher Maintenance

9. Change your filter every 40 gallons, or about every two months for the average family. If you use a Brita Smart Filter, the indicator will flash to inform you when it is time to replace the filter.

10. Store your unopened filters in a cool, dry place until you need them. Brita water filters have an indefinite shelf life.

11. Clean a chrome pitcher with a soft sponge which has been soaked in a solution of one cup of water with a teaspoon of vinegar.

Tips Warnings

To find out how much water you should be drinking, take your weight in pounds, divide it in two, and change it to ounces. You should be eating food with a high content of water so take 80 percent of this number to find out a safe water limit. For example, a 140-pound woman would have a 70-ounce limit of water a day. 80 percent of 70 is 56, so this woman should be drinking seven eight-ounce glasses of water a day.

By the time your mouth is dry, you are already very dehydrated. Keep topping up your water throughout the day.
