Barbeque Beans For A Crowd

Add additional sugar or molasses for extra sweetness.

Barbecuing beans for a crowd can make a delicious difference at a family cookout or 4th of July extravaganza. The trick to ensuring a successful meal is to give yourself enough time. Because of the increase in food, cooking times for large groups extend beyond those required for traditional family dinners. Giving yourself enough time also includes preparation periods -- so have all of your ingredients and cooking materials ready to go before beginning.

Instructions

1. Preheat your smoker to medium heat -- the equivalent to 350 degrees Fahrenheit on a traditional stove.

2. Dice the raw bacon into 1/2-inch wide squares.

3. Dump all of the beans into a large mixing bowl. Stir the beans together to merge all of the flavors.

4. Layer half of beans into a large, metal baking pan. Sprinkle half of the sugar and molasses ingredients on top. Layer on the remaining beans. Add the bacon pieces and the remaining sugar and molasses.

5. Cook uncovered for 90 to 120 minutes, depending on how well done you would like your barbecue beans. Remove the beans and pour 1/4 cup of fresh water over the mixture to relax the beans. The recipe serves 15 to 20 people.
