Crab Salad Ingredients

Crab salad is a popular dish that features crab tossed together with fresh fruits and vegetables as well as a dressing or vinaigrette. The salad is often served as an appetizer at events on crackers, but is also sometimes served as a main dish on lettuce or on a puff pastry. If you've never made crab salad before, know that the ingredients needed are pretty simple.

Crab

Crab is the main ingredient in crab salad. How much crab you will need depends primarily on how much crab salad you want to make. The easiest way to make crab salad is to purchase the crab already pre-cooked in a packet from your local grocery store. If you are using fresh crab, you will need to cook the crab and remove the crab meat from the shell before preparing your salad, which can be exceptionally time consuming, but can also make for an exceptionally tasty salad. For a salad to serve four people you should use either a pound and a half of crab legs, or one 16-oz. packet of pre-cooked crab meat.

Tomatoes

Cut up two tomatoes into small wedge sized pieces and mix them together with the crab meat.

Hard Boiled Eggs

Hard boil two eggs and mix them together with the crab meat and tomatoes.

Vegetables

Add one sliced up cucumber, 8 spears of asparagus and one sliced avocado to the crab, tomato and egg and mix well.

Dressing

Purchase a dressing to use on the salad or create one using 2/3 cup of mayonnaise, 1/3 cup of chili sauce, 2 tsp. on lemon juice, 1 tbsp. of green onion and a teaspoon of horseradish sauce. Mix the dressing throughout the salad so everything is evenly covered.

Lettuce

Serve the salad on a lettuce-lined plate to guests.
