Tone Down Spiciness In Barbecue Sauce

Honey is a sweetener that can make barbecue sauce less spicy.

Although people like to eat foods cooked in barbecue sauce because of its tangy flavor, not everyone likes spicy sauce. Not only can the spice's heat be uncomfortable on your tongue, it can also cause heartburn. You can tone down the spiciness by either adding a sweetener that complements the sauce, or blending some form of cream or dairy product into it.

Instructions

1. Put the barbecue sauce in a small mixing bowl.

2. Measure 1 tsp. of either a sweetening agent or a form of cream. Some items that can sweeten sauce include honey, sugar, fruit jelly and even soda. Mayonnaise, sour cream and milk are among the types of cream you can use.

3. Stir the barbecue sauce with the teaspoon until the ingredient you added is blended in.

4. Taste the sauce. If the spiciness is toned down to your satisfaction, use the barbecue sauce as desired. If it's still too hot, add 1 more tsp. of the sweetener or cream and blend it in. Repeat this step until you are happy with the sauce's flavor.
