Syrups Made With Splenda

Add maple syrup made with Splenda to waffles for a sugar-free alternative.

Splenda can be used as a substitute for sugar in recipes, drinks, toppings and syrups. A simple syrup can be made ahead of time. Additionally, flavorings can be added to the simple syrup recipe to create variations.

Simple Syrup Ingredients

The basic ingredients for a simple syrup are one cup of Splenda (do not use the "Splenda for Baking" product) and one cup of boiling water.

Preparation

Bring water to a boil in a sauce pan. Dissolve one cup of Splenda in the boiling water and allow mixture to cool. Strain through a coffee filter to remove any sediment. Store the syrup at room temperature.

Variations

Additional flavorings can be added to the simple syrup recipe. Chocolate syrup is made by adding cocoa powder (to taste) and one teaspoon of vanilla extract. Maple syrup is made by adding maple flavoring and a small amount of real maple syrup. Cinnamon syrup is made by simmering one crushed stick of cinnamon with the simple syrup for about 40 minutes. Ginger syrup is made by simmering finely minced fresh ginger in the simple syrup for 40 minutes. Citrus syrup is made by adding the zest of one orange, grapefruit or lemon and one tablespoon of orange, grapefruit or lemon juice to 1/2-cup of simple syrup and simmering for about 40 minutes.
