Cook With Summer Savory

Savory, an herb which is synonymous with bold, flavorful foods, has a peppery flavor that can be used in a wide assortment of meals. Often called the "bean herb," summer savory is a digestive aid which prevents indigestion and gas, and is also thought to act as an aphrodisiac.

Instructions

1. Use summer savory in bean dishes--one of the most common ways of cooking with this flavorful herb. Not only does the herb add a unique flavor, it also aids digestion of problematic foods such as green leafy vegetables and beans.

2. Toss young, tender leaves of summer savory into salads or as a delicious garnish for any meal. Summer savory is the lightest of all savory varieties and has smaller more delicate leaves.

3. Mince fresh or dried summer savory, and mix them into bread crumbs when coating vegetables, poultry or fish.

4. Add summer savory to slow-cooked meats for delicate pepper flavor, or mix it into potato salads, tomato sauce, meatloaf or mashed potatoes. Savory is a great addition to egg recipes as well, and can be cooked into omelets, scrambled eggs or frittatas.
