Make A Black Russian

Black Russians are named for the color imparted by the coffee liqueur.

Balancing flavors is the key to creating a successful alcoholic beverage that isn't overpowered by one flavor or too strong to drink. The use of two liquors calms an overpowering ingredient, such as liqueurs, to create a flavorful cocktail. The Black Russian combines the dominating sweet flavor of coffee liqueur with the smooth flavor of vodka to create a drink that appeals to young drinkers. Two-liquor drinks are both fast and easy to make, as the liquors readily blend without the use of a blender.

Instructions

1. Fill an old fashioned glass with ice cubes; the glass should be full. If desired, place the ice cubes in a blender for a refreshing summer beverage.

2. Pour 1 ounce of vodka into the glass. It is important to pour the vodka first because the coffee liqueur has a higher sugar content and will sink to the bottom of the glass, mixing the two ingredients together.

3. Add 1/2 ounce of coffee liqueur into the glass. Serve with a cocktail straw.
