Make Homemade Spaghetti Sauce From Scratch

Make your own delicious homemade sauce today.

Whether you come from an Italian family or just love Italian cooking, store-bought spaghetti sauce rarely comes close to the delicious taste of homemade sauce. While cooking sauce from scratch may seem like a daunting task, it takes very few ingredients and can be learned easily. There are many variations to the classic recipe, so try out a few until you find your favorite.

Instructions

1. Chop and dice the parsley, basil, garlic cloves and sweet onion.

2. Saute the diced onion in a pan until golden. Once golden, add the garlic and continue to saute for 30 seconds. Remove from heat and set aside.

3. Combine the sauteed onion and garlic to the 8-quart pot with the crushed tomatoes and tomato paste. Place this oven-safe pot into an oven preheated to 350 degrees. Be sure to put the lid on the pot before placing it in the oven.

4. Keep the pot in the oven for 2 1/2 hours hours. Once this time is up, remove the pot, add the basil and parsley and stir. Salt and pepper can be added to taste. The sauce is ready to be served immediately or can be saved in the refrigerator for up to two days, or in the freezer up to six months.
