Neutralize Food Seasoned With Too Much Pepper

A lot of pepper can work in a spicy dish.

With its strong flavor, a small amount of black pepper goes a long way. If you accidentally over-seasoned a dish with pepper, there is still hope. Use one or two of the following methods to try to fix the dish. Taste the food after each trick to see if it tastes better before trying an additional method.

Instructions

1. Add more of the ingredients in the dish aside from the pepper. This creates an amount of food that is more equivalent to the amount of pepper you used.

2. Season the dish with additional amounts of the other herbs and spices in the recipe to balance the taste of the pepper. If it did not include any other spices, think of some that would complement the dish you are cooking. Tarragon goes with fish, oregano and basil with Italian food and curry powder, garlic and cumin go with Indian and Spanish dishes.

3. Dilute the flavor of the pepper with broth, corn starch or flour.

4. Add raw potatoes to the dish and simmer them with it for 20 minutes. Then take out the potatoes; they absorb some of the flavor and add starch to dilute more of the pepper.
