Spice Up A Grilled Chicken Caesar Salad

Grilled chicken makes can make a Caesar salad a meal.

Caesar salad is one of the most beloved dishes in America. The creamy, cheesy dressing provides a delightful and salty contrast to crisp romaine lettuce and crunchy croutons. Many classic recipes call for adding bacon and anchovies, but like the lettuce, cheese, and croutons, they are just a start. Adding grilled chicken to a Caesar salad can make this dish an easy, complete meal in minutes. Once you start testing some creative variations on this classic dish, you can keep serving this regularly without ever getting bored.

Instructions

1. Spicing up the chicken is the quickest way to add intense flavor to your salad. Marinate the chicken in oil and hot sauce or Cajun spice. Marinating at least an hour will really give it a kick, but even a few minutes will help. Toss the lettuce, dressing, croutons, and cheese in a large bowl. Grill or pan fry the marinated chicken before slicing and serving over the tossed salad. If you are using left over grilled chicken, then toss sliced chicken in the oil and spice or sauce before serving.

2. Check your local grocery or gourmet store for a range of croutons. Croutons made with tangy sourdough bread work especially well in Caesar salad, but those made with olive bread would also be terrific. Garlic-flavored croutons are also widely available and add an extra punch to your salad.

3. Try adding chopped olives and sliced red onion to the tossed salad before adding the grilled chicken. The salty olives and sharp onion complement the spicy chicken.

4. Spice up the Caesar salad by adding hot sauce directly to the dressing before tossing the salad. Be sure to start with a little sauce and taste as you go along to make sure it does not get too spicy. The spiced dressing can be served with spiced or plain grilled chicken depending on your tolerance for heat.
