Make Sour Cream Icing

When you're creating the perfect cake for your special occasion, the right frosting is important. Making your own frosting and experimenting with different flavors can leave you saying goodbye to store-bought frosting for good.

Instructions

1. Pour 3 cups of powdered sugar in a large mixing bowl and then burrow out the middle of the sugar mound.

2. Pour 6 oz. of sour cream into the powdered sugar reservoir, and then thoroughly mix the contents of the bowl.

3. Add 1 tsp. of vanilla extract and whisk the mixture vigorously for 5 minutes. It should become paste-like and bright white in color. If the mixture is not white, add more powdered sugar 1/4 cup at a time and whisk thoroughly.

4. Add the shortening 1 cup at a time. Use the whisk and beat the contents until it is thick, fluffy and white.

5. Cover the bowl of icing with cling wrap and place it in the refrigerator to chill and firm up. It should stay in the fridge for approximately 2 hours before it is used.
