Make Grass For A Gingerbread House

Gingerbread houses can be beautiful edible creations with trees and snow. Grass was rarely used on gingerbread houses until recently. You can add green grass to a spring or fall gingerbread house by following these steps.

Instructions

1. Mix a generous portion of green and brown food coloring in a stain resistant bowl. Make enough food coloring for both the royal icing and the coconut.

2. Make a batch of royal icing. Refer to the eHow article, " Make a Perfect Royal Icing" if you don't have a recipe of your own.

3. Mix the food coloring into the royal icing. Add 1 small drop full at a time until the icing is grass colored.

4. Empty a bag of coconut into the zip lock bag. Insert a few drops of the food coloring from Step 1. Shake the bag. Check the color and add more food coloring until the coconut matches the grass color of your royal icing.

5. Smooth a fine layer of icing on the gingerbread board. Work in small 1" square sections since the royal icing dries quickly. Sprinkle the colored coconut over the icing and press down with a clean hand. Continue until the grass covers the desired area.
