In the online game "Ameba Pico," often shortened to "Pico," players use an avatar to navigate the game and interact with other players. With an avatar, players can find the sea monster while manning the pirate ship, have tea in Paris or undergo ninja training in Edo. Creating a "Pico" avatar is a simple process of entering the pertinent information followed by the more creative process of individualizing the avatar with clothing, physical features and accessories.
Instructions
Getting Started
1. Go to pico.ameba.net and click the "Create a new account" button. If accessing through Facebook, login to Facebook and search for Ameba Pico. Click on "Ameba Pico Virtual World." On Pico's Facebook page, click on the "Go to App" button. Allow the game access.
2. Pick the avatar's gender.
3. Design the avatar's look. The game offers varying skin tones, noses and mouths as well as different shapes and color for hair, eyes and eyebrows.
4. Confirm avatar choices by clicking the "Play now" button. If playing through "Ameba Pico's" website, enter personal information, including email address, gender, birthday and password. Agree to the terms of service and hit "Next." On the next page, enter the code and confirm player information. The game will then send an email to the account used to sign up; click the URL in that email to confirm the account.
5. Name the avatar.
6. Complete the tutorial. The tutorial teaches players navigate the game and interact with other players. At the end of the tutorial, the tutorial issues the player one form of game currency, tokens.

7. Purchase new clothing during game play to further customize the avatar. Clothing is available through Gacha, which is a gumball-like machine. The shop, accessible through the icon at the bottom right hand corner of the screen, offers clothing for Gummies, another form of currency, or Ameba gold, currency players must purchase with a credit card or Paypal account. Players obtain Gummies by completing tasks, like feeding other avatars or unlocking the mummy's tomb.
8. Travel the game. Players can purchase other items of clothing in shops around the game or win clothing by playing games, such as ninja practice in Edo.
9. Change the avatar's physical appearance later in the game by clicking the settings button at the top of the page. To make this change, players must pay 300 Gummies.
