Make A Wine Filter

There are two types of wine filters. One is the filtering system used in making wine. The second is the filter system used when decanting wine. Decanting with a filter will greatly improve the wine's taste by removing the sediment. The filtering process forces wine through a small hole along the stem of a funnel. The filter in the funnel removes sediment and aerates the wine. Most metal filters are expensive; however, a homemade wine filter will provide the same affect.

Instructions

1. Stand a wine bottle that has been resting on its side upright for a day or two before uncorking. This allows the sediment to settle to the bottom of the bottle before uncorking.

2. Use a knife to remove the foil from the bottle and a corkscrew to remove the cork.

3. Place an unbleached coffee filter into a glass funnel. Place the glass funnel into the mouth of the carafe. Carefully pour the wine slowly into the carafe through the funnel. The coffee filter will catch the sediment.

4. Sit the open carafe aside three to five hours, allowing the wine to breath. The breathing will improve the taste of both a new wine and an aged wine.

5. Pour wine from the carafe into a wine glass and enjoy.
