Sour Cream Doughnuts

Doughnuts are sweet treats that come in a variety of flavors. For a richer taste and cake-like texture, bakers add sour cream into the doughnut mixture to make sour cream doughnuts.

Features

Sour cream doughnuts contain the same basic ingredients as traditional doughnuts: eggs, sugar, flour and butter. The addition of real sour cream is what distinguishes sour cream doughnuts from other doughnuts.

Function

According to Fabulous Foods, bakers making sour cream doughnuts combine all the ingredients and mix in about 3/4 cup of sour cream for every 24 doughnuts being made. The sour cream makes the dough mixture sticky, which contributes to the doughnuts' cake-like, moist texture after they are cooked.

Method

Fabulous Foods says that once all the ingredients are combined, the mixture is rolled out onto a floured surface and cut with a doughnut cutter. The raw doughnuts are then fried in oil until they're golden brown on both sides. After being removed from the oil, the doughnuts must be drained and dusted with sugar.

Considerations

Most bakeries that sell doughnuts carry sour cream doughnuts. These doughnuts are sold plain or with toppings such as sprinkles.
