Are you looking for a creative dessert to bring to your next PTA meeting or class function? Get everyone's attention with a pencil cake. Not only is it a yummy treat, it's easy and fun to make. Here's make a pencil cake.
Instructions
1. Prepare the cake. Mix together cake mix and ingredients according to the package directions. Bake the cake in a 9-by-13 inch baking pan according times and temperatures on the package. Bake cake until toothpick or knife is inserted and comes out clean. Cool completely.
2. Shape the cake. Using a serrated knife, cut one end of the cake so that it looks like the tip of a pencil. You will be cutting two triangular shapes away from your cake. Set these to the side to snack on later. To cut these pieces away evenly, mark the center of the cake at the edge of the end you are cutting. Take your serrated knife and connect the tip of the knife from the mark in the middle to the edge of the cake. Begin cutting. This should give you an even looking pencil point.
3. Tint the frostings. Take yellow food coloring and dye some white frosting for the main part of the pencil (the large middle section of the cake). Take red food coloring and dye some white frosting for the eraser portion of the cake. Set to the side.
4. Frost the cake. Using white frosting, frost the pointed tip of the cake using an offset spatula. Next, frost the main part of the pencil cake with yellow frosting. Finally, frost the end that hasn't been cut with pink frosting, creating the eraser portion of the pencil cake. Put some chocolate frosting in a sandwich bag and cut one of the corners of the bag. Squeeze the frosting out through the corner and create a zigzag pattern above the eraser portion (on the yellow portion of the pencil cake). Take the chocolate frosting in the sandwich bag and fill in the tip of the pencil cake, creating the lead portion of the pencil cake.
