Set jelly faster by using ice cubes instead of cold water.
Jelly is an easy dessert that can be enjoyed on its own, in a fruit salad, cake or pudding. You can mold jelly (which is also often known by the brand name Jell-O) into several interesting shapes and colors to match a celebration theme. While jelly is simple to prepare, it must be made well in advance as it requires time to set. However, there are some preparation techniques that you can use to set jelly faster, especially if you are in a hurry or are running short on fridge space.
Instructions
1. Chill the jelly mold before you prepare the jelly. Place a metal mold in the freezer for 10 minutes. Jelly sets faster in metal containers rather than in molds made from glass or other material.
2. Dissolve the jelly crystals or jelly powder thoroughly in boiling water, in a separate vessel. Follow the preparation instructions mentioned on the package of the jelly crystals. Use a metal spoon to stir and dissolve the jelly crystals until you get a clear liquid.
3. Add ice cubes instead of cold water to the liquid. Use the same proportion of ice cubes as that required for the cold water. Stir vigorously until the liquid thickens. Scoop out the ice cubes that have not dissolved and discard. The ice cubes will help to set the jelly faster.
4. Pour the thickened jelly liquid in the chilled mold. Chill in the refrigerator for half an hour for a soft-set jelly, or one hour for a firm mold.
