Melt any flavor of chocolate chips to coat pretzles, but be aware that the melting points of each type differ.
Chocolate has come a long way from its introduction in a bitter drink that the ancient Mayans and Aztecs served during ceremonial and religious rites. Today, chocolate is used in everything from gooey desserts to savory dishes, and the sweet-and-salty combination of chocolate-covered pretzels is especially delicious. Melting store-bought chocolate chips to cover pretzels is a convenient and easy process that can be done at home.
Instructions
Stovetop Method
1. Heat 1 inch of water in a saucepan over low heat. If it begins to simmer too rapidly, lower the heat so the water doesn't splatter.
2. Set a dry, snug-fitting bowl atop the saucepan.
3. Pour the chocolate chips into the bowl.
4. Stir the chips with a dry spoon as they begin to melt. Continue to stir until the chocolate is smooth and all the chips are completely melted.
5. Remove the bowl from the saucepan, taking care not to get any water in the bowl.
Microwave Method
6. Pour the chocolate chips into a microwave-safe bowl.
7. Microwave the chips on high for 1 minute.
8. Remove the bowl from the microwave and stir the chocolate.
9. Return the bowl to the microwave and heat in 30-second increments, stirring after each time, until the chocolate is smooth.
