Pinot Grigio

Pinot Grigio is a white wine that is also known as Pinot Gris, a variant of the Pinot Noir red wine. This variant is not sold as much as other white wines, like Chardonnay or Shiraz, but it is still a popular drink that goes well with many light dishes.


Geography


Pinot Grigio is made in two primary locations, Oregon in the United States and Alsace in France. However, wineries are also found in California, Germany and Italy.


Features


Pinot Grigio is a dry white wine that is made from the pinot gris grapes. These grapes are bluish gray to light pinkish brown in color, and the wine is light colored, even compared to wines such as Chardonnay.


Flavor


Pinot Grigio has a delicate fragrance that brings out the floral flavor that is tinged with a flavors of pears and apricot. It can be made very light or full-bodied.


Food Pairings


Pinot Grigio is paired best with any kind of seafood dish, no matter how it is prepared. It also goes well with washed-rind cheeses.


Alcohol Content


The alcohol content in Pinot Grigio varies depending on the age of the grapes used to make it. This wine typically has 12 to 15 percent alcohol content, however.
