Send Champagne Gifts

A bottle of champagne in a gift bag.

Sending champagne as a gift can be done for personal or business reasons. As with most wine, champagne is a celebratory drink that we use to mark a special occasion like a birth, a wedding or a business milestone or success. Whatever the occasion, champagne gifts are made more attractive when they are specially packaged or come with an assortment of other items in a gift basket.

Instructions

1. Determine how much you are willing to spend. Champagne is more expensive than sparkling wine even though the champagne-making process, known as methode champenoise, is the same. Only those wines that come from the Champagne region of France are allowed to be called champagne. Also, vintage champagne, which is from a specific vintage year, is more expensive than non-vintage. Top vintage champagnes, such as Dom Perignon and Roederer Cristal, can cost several hundred dollars a bottle.

2. Decide on sending a single bottle or a gift basket which can contain food items such as fruit or cheese. If you decide on sending non-vintage champagne, you may be able to include more items if you choose a gift basket.

3. Shop locally or search the Internet for a wine retailer. If the recipient of the champagne gift lives close to you, you may find it easier to go to a local store with a good champagne selection, and inquire if they will fashion a gift package for you and deliver it. The process is made easier if you decide on sending a single bottle. Adding a gift card penned in your own hand makes the presentation more personal. If the champagne-gift recipient lives some distance away, the Internet will provide you with a list of retailers who can handle the selection and shipping process. Note that a number of states have restrictions as to the shipping of alcoholic beverages.

4. Sending a champagne gift through an Internet seller can offer more choices in both the choices of champagne brands and the variety of gift baskets available. Also, you may be able to save on sales tax if both the retailer and gift recipient are out of state. However, depending on the money amount of the gift, you can incur shipping charges. Some retailers offer free shipping depending on the amount of the order purchased.

5. Shop around and compare prices if time allows. Internet shopping offers you the advantage of comparing listings side-by-side. Make sure the Internet seller you opt to buy from is an established company that can send your champagne gift without conditions or difficulty.
