Bake A Sweet Potato With Butter

The average sweet potato is this size.

High in vitamin A and vitamin C, the sweet potato provides nutrition for a low cost per serving. With iron, calcium and thiamine rounding out the nutritional value, the sweet potato is also a good source of fiber. Purchase a sweet potato that is deep orange and firm, then store it in a cool place, but not the refrigerator, until you are ready to bake it. Butter and brown sugar make a tasty accompaniment to the taste of sweet potato.

Instructions

1. Preheat the oven to 350 degrees Fahrenheit. Scrub the sweet potato under running water with a vegetable scrubber. Pat it dry with a paper towel.

2. Rub about 1 tsp. of butter on the outside of the sweet potato and place it on a baking sheet. Place the sheet in the oven for about 30 to 45 minutes, depending on the size of the sweet potato. Pierce it with a fork to test for tenderness. It is completely cooked when the fork can go into the center of the potato easily.

3. Take the sweet potato out of the oven and split it in half. Place 1 tsp. of butter on each half. Sprinkle 1 tsp. of brown sugar on each half and serve.
