Make A Flower Out Of A Coffee Filter

Coffee Filter Flowers

Coffee filter flowers are an enjoyable project for families and crafters. The flowers are very easy to create, making this a great craft for children. Each flower that is made ends up being unique, and there is a lot of room for creativity with a project like this. It can be adjusted for season, theme, or even the type of supplies you have on hand. What is most important is that coffee filters are used because they absorb color well, and they have a good shape for creating flowers.

Instructions

Make a Flower Out of a Coffee Filter

1. Cover your workspace with old newspaper or a vinyl table cover. Sit out the bowls and put 3 tablespoons of water in each bowl. You will need one bowl for each color you choose to use.

2. Drop in 4 drops of food coloring (color of your choice) to each bowl. Scrunch up two coffee filters. Put one coffee filter in each bowl. Take the filters out of the bowls when you feel they have absorbed enough color.

3. Squeeze out the filters over the bowls they were in, and then place the filters on your workspace to dry. A paper towel should be placed underneath each filter.

4. Place the dried coffee filters together, and fold in half to form a half circle. Fold in half at least two more times until you have a very narrow piece and then cut around the piece about ½ inch from the wide end. Cutting the paper will form the shape of a typical flower. You can cut the filter anyway you desire. Each flower will be unique.

5. Paint a skewer green, or any other color of your choice. Cut leaves or even vines out of the construction paper. Green is the logical color to use, however, the leaves can be any color. Glue leaves on the skewer.

6. Poke a hole in the center of the filters and slide the skewer in to the hole. Secure the skewer with tape on the top if the skewer, and around the base if the flower.

7. Use the watercolor paints and paint brushes to add detail and highlights to the flower. Touch up the leaves to make them look more realistic, and add shading to the flowers to make them stand out more. This is where you can be really creative and turn the flower in to a piece of art.
