An integrated circuit is also known as a computer chip, a microchip or simply a chip. The chip today is present in countless applications such as computers, automobiles and electronics. Chips are constructed of microscopic integrated circuitry fixed within semiconductor material. The chip performs various operations such as letting outside information into the circuitry, storing information in memory, and performing mathematical functions.

Intel is the world's largest manufacturer of computer chips. Intel was founded in 1968 and is headquartered in Santa Clara, California. The company develops advanced integrated digital technology products, primarily integrated circuits, for the computing, communications and other industries. The company recorded revenues of more than $37 billion in 2009.
Jabil Circuit
Jabil Circuit, Inc. was founded in 1966 in Detroit, to produce circuit boards. The company entered into a lucrative relationship with General Motors in 1979, and its revenues first exceeded $1 billion in 1993. The company manufactures circuits for the communications industry as well as computer and automobile applications. Jabil has relationships with such customers as Cisco Systems, Hewlett-Packard and Quantum Corp. The company is now based in St. Petersburg, Florida. The company's revenues in 2009 exceeded $12 billion.

Texas Instruments, Inc. is one of the founding innovators in the computing world as well as the developer of the integrated circuit, which later came to be known as a chip. In 1981 when the company manufactured its first personal computer, it was already the number one manufacturer of computer chips. Texas Instruments is headquartered in Dallas, Texas. The company reported revenues of more than $12 billion in 2009.
Sanmina-SCI
The Sanmina Corp. was founded in 1980, and SCI Systems, Inc., in 1961. The companies merged in 2001, creating Sanmina-SCI. The company is located in San Jose, California, and services the communications, semiconductor, defense and aerospace, medical equipment and automotive markets. The company reported 2009 revenues of more than $9 billion.
