Thaw A Ham

Thaw a Ham

Preparing a festive dinner this year but have no idea thaw a ham? Here are some tips!

Instructions

1. Know that there are a couple of options to thaw a ham first. You can either thaw it in the refrigerator or in cold water. Most people recommend using a refrigerator.

2. To thaw a ham in a refrigerator first determine the size of the ham. Five hours is recommended per pound on smaller hams while with larger hams it is recommended to thaw for seven hours per pound. Do the math in your head and this will tell you exactly how long to keep it in the refrigerator. Always keep in mind to keep the ham in its original packaging and place it in a tray so that your refrigerator remains clean of any stain!

3. To thaw the ham in cold water first of all place the ham in a sealed bag that will not allow any sort of leakage. For a larger ham it will take about a half an hour per pound. For a smaller ham it will only take a couple of hours. Check on the ham often and remember to change the water every hour or so.
