The Best Way to Store Cheddar Cheese
Cheddar cheese originated in the town of Cheddar in Great Britain and is now one of the most widely-eaten types of cheese in the world. Cheddar cheese is a semi-hard natural cheese with many different varieties; its flavor depends on how it is made and the age of the cheese. In order to keep your cheddar cheese fresh for as long as possible, you need to store it properly when you get it home from the store.
Instructions
1. Place chunks or blocks of cheddar cheese in between two pieces of wax paper. If the deli sliced the cheddar for you it may already be wrapped in wax paper.
2. Wrap the cheese covered in wax paper in plastic wrap. The plastic wrap should be tight to prevent air from getting in.
3. Place in the refrigerator. Cheddar cheese will stay fresh three to four weeks in the fridge. If the cheese starts to get moldy, cut a one-inch parameter around the mold and throw it away. Re-wrap the remaining cheese.
4. Cut the cheese into pieces no larger than a half-pound for freezer storage. Wrap the cheese in freezer wrap, then place inside a strong freezer bag and seal. Cheddar cheese will remain at its best quality in the freezer up to six months.
