Cooked Wheat Cereals

Cooked wheat cereals are a healthy way to start the day.

Adding cooked wheat cereals to any diet is a healthy choice because they contain essential vitamins and minerals. There are a few different brands and flavors of nutritious wheat cereal to choose from.

Nutritional Value

Wheat is a whole grain that is rich in protein. It contains manganese, phosphorous, magnesium and selenium. Additionally, it is rich in zinc, iron, copper and potassium. Wheat also contains a small amount of calcium.

Cream of Wheat

Cream of Wheat® is a popular cooked wheat cereal that comes in many different flavors, including Maple Brown Sugar, Cinnamon Swirl, Apples 'n Cinnamon and even Cinnabon.

Original varieties are cooked by adding the cereal to boiling water and cooking on the stove for 3--10 minutes, depending on the type. Many flavors are now available as instant cereals that come in individual serving packages and can be microwaved or cooked by just adding boiling water. These are ideal for busy mornings or office breakfasts.

They contain 60 percent of the recommended daily intake of iron and are fortified with potassium, folic acid and B vitamins.
