Find Jewish cuisine throughout New Jersey.
No matter what your religion, color or beliefs, you can find a high-quality meal at one of New Jersey's many Jewish delis, restaurants, pizzerias and other Kosher establishments. From bagels and Israeli classics to Chinese food and sushi, the Garden State has something for everyone looking for Jewish food in the state.
Delis
Delis are a staple of Kosher eating. You'll find sandwiches piled high with corned beef, pastrami and turkey breast, salads, pickles and stuffed knishes -- usually a mashed potato dumpling covered in dough and baked or fried -- throughout New Jersey.
Deli King has two locations, in Clark and Linden. While the Clark location focuses on catering for temples, businesses and individual diners, Linden primarily focuses on serving the public. Both locations have a deli counter with a separate dining area, and have baking on premises. Linden offers next day shipping anywhere in the country with FedEx and is second generation family owned.
Mediterranean and Israeli
Many Jewish Americans are of Israeli or Mediterranean descent, while others have European ancestry. New Jersey has many eateries specializing in falafel, couscous, Moroccan meat cigars, schwarma and baba gannoush.
The New Jersey Record featured Perfect Pita, located at 13-22 River Road, Fair Lawn, in its "Eating out on $50" section. The restaurant -- which serves menu options including falafel, beef shish kebab, Moroccan pot roast and Sabbath stew -- received glowing praise in the review for its Kosher hummus, chicken and french fries and tomato and onion salad dishes. Since the article's publication in late 2007, Perfect Pita has begun local delivery to individuals and hotels.
Pizza
Many Kosher restaurants serve up their take on pizza. One such location, Jerusalem Pizza West on West Mount Pleasant Avenue in Livingston, serves an assortment of food including sushi, bagels and Italian and Asian pasta dishes.
Another Kosher pizza place is J Cafe and Pizza in the Jewish Cultural Center, or JCC, of Monmouth County. The cafe and pizza parlor features classic Italian selections, sushi, smoothies and an espresso bar. While the JCC is for members only, the J Cafe is open to the public and offers an indoor and a courtyard dining area.
Specialty
Some staples of Jewish cuisine don't fall under any other categories or they fall into all of them, making classification difficult. Kosher favorites include vegetarian cuisine, bagels and even classic bar fare. In fact, Park Place in Highland Park could pass for your average college hangout with chicken wings, burgers and corn dogs featured prominently on the menu. The resaurant only serves Glatt Kosher pub fare, meaning they don't mix milk and meat products, and prepares meat to the highest quality standards under rabbinical supervision.
