Clean A Kettle Popcorn Popper

Kettle popcorn poppers use heat from a stove to pop corn kernels.

A kettle popcorn popper uses a stove to pop popcorn and comes with a handle that needs to be turned continuously to cook the corn kernels thoroughly. While not as quick and convenient as microwaveable popcorn bags, a kettle popcorn popper is simple to use. The most annoying part of using a kettle popcorn popper, however, is the clean-up, which takes a little extra work than throwing away a bag of microwaved popcorn.

Instructions

1. Remove the kettle popcorn popper's lid. The lid should have clasps in two locations. Pull these clasps outward as you pull the lid up to take it off. The lid will come off with the stirring piece of metal, leaving the pan part of the popper on the bottom. Set the lid aside.

2. Rinse the pan to remove excess popcorn grains. Add dish soap and scrub the pan with a washcloth to remove any traces of butter or cooking oil.

3. Use a scrub brush with dish soap to remove any burned or stuck-on popcorn pieces, then use a washcloth to wipe clean.

4. Clean the lid by using a washcloth. Clean from the bottom side of the lid, then down the metal that turns the popcorn. Be gentle while cleaning the stirring part because rough treatment can result in bending the thin metal.

5. Rinse the popcorn popper to remove soap. Air dry it, or dry it with a towel, as preferred. Put the lid back on and snap it into place once the popper is dry.
