In addition to being rich and flavorful, cheesecakes can also be aesthetically pleasing. You can decorate them with a variety of items ranging from colorful sauces to fresh fruit. As long as you are willing to add an extra flavor -- such as chocolate, raspberry or pumpkin -- to your cheesecake, you can create beautiful, delicate swirls of color in the cheesecake itself.
Instructions
1. Make your cheesecake as directed by your recipe of choice. Stop just before the recipe tells you to pour the cream cheese mixture into your prepared crust.
2. Pour half of the cream cheese mixture into your prepared pie crust. Drop evenly-spaced spoonfuls of about 1 cup of a flavored substance of your choice onto the cream cheese mixture in the crust. Options for this substance include chocolate sauce, butterscotch sauce, fruit purees or fruit sauces.
3. Insert the tip of a knife through the sauce or puree on the cream cheese mixture in the crust. Swirl the knife around to partially blend the sauce with the cream cheese mixture. As you do this, pay attention to what knife swirling patters create attractive swirls. This layer will not be visible when you finish baking the cake, so feel free to experiment.
4. Pour the remaining cream cheese mixture onto the swirled mixture in the crust. Drop the remaining 1/2 cup of sauce onto the top of the cake by the spoonful and swirl with the knife as you did on the previous layer.
5. Bake the cheesecake as directed by your recipe.
