Once you've made your own gravy from turkey drippings, you will never settle for canned or packages gravy again! This homemade gravy is great served over mashed potatoes and turkey. Leftover gravy can be used as the base for soups, creamed turkey, turkey pot pie, or hot turkey sandwiches. It can even be frozen for use in future recipes.
Instructions
1. Remove the turkey from the roasting pan and place on a platter to cool slightly before carving.
2. Scrape the bottom of the roasting pan with a wooden spoon to loosen any turkey or stuffing pieces that are clinging to the pan. Do not remove any of the stuck on pieces.
3. Place the roaster over a burner set to medium heat.
4. Add the flour and mix it in until you have a thick paste. Cook until the paste begins to thicken.
5. Pour in two cups of cold water and blend well. Add remaining water. Continue to stir the gravy mixture as it cooks.
6. When the gravy reaches the desired consistency, turn off the heat.
7. Strain gravy with a gravy strainer or a colander. This isn't absolutely necessary, but will produce a nice smooth gravy.
8. Add salt and pepper to taste and serve with mashed potatoes and turkey.
