Stepbystep Instructions For A Spanish Paella Dish

Make a traditional Spanish Paella dish at home to enjoy a delicacy.

Paella is a Spanish rice dish that originated in Valencia. The recipe for this dish varies according to personal tastes. The dish may contain chicken, pork, fish, shellfish and a variety of vegetables. Saffron often is added to the dish to turn the rice into a golden brown hue. Paella traditionally was cooked over an open fire, but you can make the dish at home on your kitchen stove top.

Instructions

1. Place a wok on the stove top over medium-high heat. Add 2 tablespoons of olive oil into the wok.

2. Slice five hot Italian sausage links and five mild links into 1 inch pieces. Saute the sausage pieces until they are brown on all sides.

3. Remove the sausage and place it in a bowl. Place 15 chicken tenders into the wok with the sausage grease. Saute the chicken until it browns on all sides.

4. Remove the chicken from the wok and place it in a separate bowl. Saute one chopped onion, one bell pepper cut into strips, one chopped celery stock and 2 cloves of minced garlic until they are tender.

5. Place 2 cups uncooked long-grain rice into the wok. Add 2 14-ounce cans of diced tomatoes, 2 bay leaves, 2 teaspoons of salt, 1 tablespoon of saffron and 1 teaspoon of dried oregano. Cook and stir the ingredients for one minute.

6. Add 3 1/2 cups of chicken broth to the wok. Add the chicken tenders. Cover the wok and simmer for 20 minutes.

7. Add the sausage pieces. Simmer the ingredients for 15 minutes. Stir in 2 pounds of large prepared shrimp. Cook the ingredients for 5 to 10 minutes or until the shrimp cooks completely.

8. Remove the wok from the stove top. Allow it to sit for five minutes. Serve the paella hot.
