What Chocolate To Use When Making Fondue

Chocolate fondue creates a wonderful, post-dinner aroma. When it's served with fruit, it is slightly less decadent than other chocolate desserts. Variations on the theme will delight your guests.

Chocolate Chips

Create a delicious chocolate fondue with chocolate chips. Mix one package (12 oz.) of chocolate chips with 2/3 cup of heavy cream in a heavy saucepan set on low to medium-low heat. Stir continuously until the ingredients are melted. Add 1 tbsp. of vanilla extract and serve in a fondue pot.

Milk Chocolate

Milk chocolate's rich creaminess tastes great with fruit and other fondue dessert foods. Place a 12 oz. package of milk chocolate chips or a 12 oz. bar of milk chocolate, broken up into pieces, in a heavy sauce pan. Add 2/3 cup of half-and-half and stir constantly over low heat until the chocolate melts.

White Chocolate

White chocolate is rich and creamy, but has no chocolate flavoring. It's made by adding vanilla, cream and sugar to cocoa butter. It's delicious as a fondue chocolate. Heat 3/4 cup of heavy cream in a heavy saucepan until it's hot--about three minutes. Add a 12 oz. package of white chocolate pieces and stir until they are melted. Add 1 tsp. of vanilla and serve.

Cocoa Powder

Create delicious fondue with cocoa powder. Pour 1 cup of cocoa powder in a cup and put it aside. In a heavy sauce pan, mix together 1 1/2 cups of sugar, 1 1/4 cup of corn syrup and 1 1/2 cup of water. Heat the ingredients on medium heat until they boil. Let the mixture simmer for 15 minutes, then slowly add the cocoa. Slowly pour in 3/4 cup of heavy cream. Put a 5 oz. bar of milk chocolate into the mixture. Heat until it's all melted and serve.
