It's cost-effective and eco-friendly to make popcorn in your microwave.
Microwave popcorn is an incredibly popular snack due to its flavor and ease of preparation. Two drawbacks to the treat, however, are its cost over time and the amount of trash the packaging generates. Both of these issues can be resolved by purchasing popcorn kernels (which are much less expensive than microwavable varieties) and popping them yourself in a paper bag. The bag can then be composted, resulting in zero trash. Each batch of popcorn can be individually flavored to satisfy your craving at the time of popping.
Instructions
1. Combine 1/4 to 1/2 cup popcorn kernels, 2 tsp. olive or coconut oil, and powdered seasonings to taste in a brown paper bag. Toss the ingredients to evenly coat the kernels.
2. Fold the top of the bag over twice.
3. Punch two holes in the folded over section of the bag, and then tie the bag closed with a piece of string.
4. Microwave the bag on high for two to three minutes, or until the popping slows to one pop per second.
