Melt Mozzarella Cheese

Mozzarella cheese requires a special melting technique when used as an ingredient in certain dishes.


We're all familiar with melted mozzarella cheese as an essential ingredient in that great American comfort food -- pizza. But if you have a recipe that calls for melted mozzarella cheese as an ingredient, you'll need a different method than simply sprinkling the cheese on top and putting it in an oven. You can get good results melting mozzarella cheese with this simple method.


Instructions


1. Sprinkle shredded mozzarella cheese into the top pan of the double boiler or a small pot. Measure the amount of cheese before you put in the pot if the recipe calls for a specific amount.


2. Place the bottom of the double boiler or a larger pot on the stove. Fill the pot halfway with water and turn the heat to medium high.


3. Set the top of the double boiler on top of the bottom pot or place the smaller pot on top of the larger pot. If you don't have a small pot that fits properly on the larger pot, use a heat-proof bowl and place it on top of the larger pot. As the water in the bottom pot heats, the cheese will gradually warm and start to melt without scorching. Stir the cheese with a spoon frequently as it melts.


4. Use a silicone or rubber spatula to remove the melted mozzarella from the pot and gently fold it into your other ingredients. Stir all ingredients together after incorporating the cheese.
